14years Girl Bags Multiple Scholarships As She Becomes First African American To Win A Spelling Bee Competition:
A 14-year-old exceptionally brilliant kid has become the first African American to win the National Spelling Bee competition. She have also been offered scholarships from various universities across the country.
In the 96 year history of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, no African American has won the competition,The teen jumped up and down, confetti flying, after successfully spelling “murraya,” winning a $50,000 prize.
Zaila Avant-Garde, a girl from Harvey, Louisiana, in the United States, has made history by correctly spelling the word “Murraya,” which is a type of tree, in the final round.
Zaila achieved the title of champion by defeating 208 contestants from 5 countries. Following this, she started to receive full-ride scholarships from various well-known universities.
Zaila Avant-garde, known for her basketball skills and artistry, showed incredible talent at the National Spelling Bee. She excelled academically and demonstrated true scholarship. She exemplified intellectual excellence and has a bright future ahead at LSU Honors. I am pleased to offer her a full scholarship to attend Louisiana State University. We are here to support her every step of the way. This message was shared by Louisiana State University President William Tate on Twitter.
Louisiana Community and Technical College System made a post on their Facebook page, saying, “We are so impressed with Zaila Avant-garde’s amazing performance at the National Spelling Bee that we want to offer her a full scholarship to any Louisiana community and technical college. We think our programs, like aerospace technology, would be a perfect match for you.”
President Ray L. Belton of Southern University tweeted, “I am happy to share that @Southernu_BR is giving #ZailaAvantgarde a full scholarship and declaring a “Zaila Day” at SU, which is part of the nation’s only #HBCU system. Our student leaders, faculty, and alumni are excited to meet you. We invite you to join the #JaguarNation!”
In the meantime, Zaila, who has three Guinness World Records for her basketball skills, is interested in playing college basketball at Harvard University. She hopes to pursue a career in Neuroscience or Gene Editing in the future. She has expressed her desire to work for NASA or play in the NBA someday.
